Where wood is chopped, splinters must fall – and because construction is craft, the emergence of defects and the supervision of their removal are everyday occurrences in the construction business. Therefore the maintenance of a list of defects is part of the standard repertoire of any construction manger whereupon the utilized tools may differ greatly. The following article compares the classical maintenance of a list of defects (e.g. in MS Excel) with new possibilities of a web based defect management. The overriding consideration is as of when can the application of web based defect-databases be rewarding.
